Cold Sun (2012)

Cold Sun was first performed by Ruth McElvanney and Caroline Ferry on the 24th of June 2012 at the Pumphouse as part of Aldeburgh Festival.

for violin duet

The cold bites your hands

and the grass stiff with frost crunches underfoot.

The sky above is bright blue,

with nothing except the burning light of the sun.

But there is no warmth in its rays,

no escape from the frozen world.

The sun shines mockingly,

low in the sky,

blinding your eyes.
