Programme Note

Scored for six conductors, 40 singers and 40 instrumentalists, Sound Histories aims to bring all of RAMM's diverse collections alive with music. The massed ensemble is divided into six groups distributed across the museum. The music can be enjoyed from anywhere within the museum and it is recommended that you move freely from gallery to gallery.

The piece begins by establishing the relationship between the groups through a series of building chords. One by one each group takes ‘centre stage’, with their own musical material that personifies the gallery where they are performing. The closing moments bring together all of this contrasting music together in one harmonious finale, celebrating the fact that all of this wonderful eclectic history and culture, comes together in one museum.
